2010 – today
Modern computing at a glance
ARM everywhere, the cloud eats the desktop, and AI accelerators take over the budget.
The desktop tower didn't die — it became a niche. Most people's primary computer is now a phone. Apple Silicon (M1, 2020) proved that high-performance ARM on the desktop was possible. The hyperscale cloud absorbed most of what used to be 'server'. Datacenters fill with GPUs and TPUs to train and serve neural networks. The beige box is now a hobby — collected, restored, and admired in groups like Beige Box Enthusiasts.
No individual machines profiled in this section — just the overview above.
